Program Acceptance of Medicaid

Funded by NIH-NIDA- R33 DA035634-03. This study reveals that programs that accept Medicaid payments in Los Angeles County report lower wait times to enter care and higher retention in treatment Does program acceptance of Medicaid affect access and engagement to care for clients seeking treatment? Because OSAT programs have historically been supported primarily by public funding (e.g., service contracts) and health care reform shifted funding source from block grants to individualized Medi-Cal reimbursement, Medi-Cal payment acceptance is becoming a critical component of program capacity
  1. Programs that accepted Medicaid reduced wait time to enter treatment for their clients.
  2. Programs that accepted Medicaid in addition to exhibiting high leadership and high readiness for change (i.e. positive staff attitudes toward change) also decreased wait time and increased time in treatment for their clients.
  3. Individuals eligible for Medi-Cal were more likely than ineligible clients to initiate treatment faster and stay in treatment longer.
